We’re a small team of growers based in & around Crosby Ravensworth near Shap who have been growing veg since 2008. We grow fruit and veg on our own holdings and work together on a communal 0.9 acre no-dig field, orchard & five polytunnels.
We focus on higher value crops that are fiddly to grow and time-consuming to harvest such as salad leaves, chard, spinach, cucumbers, sugar snap & mange tout peas, broad, French and runner beans, spring onions, courgettes, strawberries, raspberries & rhubarb. We also deliver education work with schools, lead Grow Your Own Veg courses, undertake consultancy work around themes of community food growing and open our gates to the public for Open Farm Sunday each June. We operate the veg box scheme and head up the Home Grown Here project!
Based at Gascow Farm, Ulverston, I’ve been growing potatoes on a large scale (120 acres planned for 2026) for over thirteen years. One of the first farmers to respond to the call about Home Grown Here, I’ve been working closely with Vista Veg since the start of the project to bring together growers in Cumbria.
This season I’m growing carrots, parsnips, and of course potatoes! – on a field scale at Gascow to supply the veg box scheme throughout the year.
I’m Charlotte Corns and I run a two-acre market garden at Killington New Bridge in the Sedbergh & Dentdale area of Cumbria. I grow a diverse range of organically-grown vegetables and fruit using regenerative, no-till practices which are kind to both people and planet. The market garden is a focal point for our local community, not only through the process of growing but also by providing training and educational opportunities for new entrant growers, local schools and community groups, and hosts social events such as farm-to-fork evenings throughout the year.
I mirror some of the crops grown by Vista Veg in Crosby Ravensworth to supply the box scheme in the Sedbergh and Dentdale area. I’m delighted to have been supported with an award from the Royal Countryside Fund to host an agroecology training course for new entrant growers in 2025, working together to learn how to create a sustainable and commercially viable market garden.
After completing his training on the Agroecology Course we ran in 2025, Ed is now taking the step to growing veg on a bigger scale. Based in Dufton, Ed is growing all our onions for us this year, experimenting with different varieties and types, including these lovely shallots!
I farm at Challon Hall Farm, Endmoor, just off J36 of the M6. In the past I’ve grown a variety of veg for the box scheme, including carrots, parsnips, swede and leeks. This year I’m growing sweetcorn again after a successful crop in 2024.
