Growers-VistaVeg

VistaVeg Ltd

We’re 6 growers based in & around Crosby Ravensworth near Shap who have been growing veg since 2008. We grow fruit and veg on our own holdings and work together on a communal field, orchard & five polytunnels.

We focus on higher value crops that are fiddly to grow and time-consuming to harvest such as salad leaves, chard, spinach, sugar snap & mange tout peas, French and runner beans, courgettes, squashes, kale, purple sprouting broccoli, cavalo nero, celeriac, kohlrabi, calabrese, asparagus, strawberries, raspberries & rhubarb. We also deliver education work with schools, lead Grow Your Own Veg courses, undertake consultancy work around themes of community food growing and open our gates to the public for Open Farm Sunday each June.

As fourth generation farmers we farm 550 acres just north of Penrith and have a diverse portfolio which includes growing arable crops, rearing a small suckler herd, over-wintering local sheep, working a small sandstone quarry and operating a biomass boiler for drying local crops and wood.

Vegetables were last grown on our land by our grandparents but in 2021 we started growing a variety of veg – French beans, broad beans, sugar snap & mange tout peas, kale, beetroot, cabbage and swede – for Home Grown Here.  We are keen to expand our veg-grow knowledge so that we can sell local produce at an affordable price, whilst reducing food miles and encouraging environmental sustainability.
